The Commonwealth
Memphis, Tennessee, USA
In the heart of Memphis, TN sits an 8-storey building that underwent an incredible rejuvenation.
A Private Oasis within a Vibrant City
Originally built in 1926 as a medical arts building, the Hickman Building (now known as The Commonwealth) was once a beacon of healing for all Memphians and a collaboration space for medical professionals. This historic structure endured decades of challenges, including the Great Depression, WWII, and the depopulation of Downtown Memphis, before sitting abandoned for 30 years.
It was given a new lease on life in 2018 when it was revitalized as a mixed-use space. Housing 40 apartments, commercial offices, retail spaces, and more, the building’s past and future are artistically displayed throughout the space.
A standout feature and hidden gem is the luxurious penthouse rooftop terrace, which boasts a custom Natare stainless steel pool.
This 6′ x 26.6′ all-welded, tiled pool, complete with bump-out areas for steps and a bench, was fabricated and welded by hand as a one-piece unit at our production facility before it was shipped and craned into place.

Natare Solution for The Commonwealth
Elevated/Rooftop Pool: To meet the penthouse occupant’s dream of a rooftop terrace swimming pool, a stainless steel elevated pool was the ideal choice. Lightweight and watertight, it was crucial for the living spaces below. The tight space made a one-piece stainless steel pool perfect for easy craning and quick installation.
