Project Overview
When a private school in Hamilton, New Zealand set out to replace its original pool, the goal was to create a modern aquatic facility that would allow the school to host swimming sports and aquatic programs on campus while honoring a legacy that dates back more than 100 years.
Opened in November 2024, the 25-meter, 6-lane facility features Natare’s SPS Stainless Steel Pool System, Natatec® PVC Membrane System, stainless steel perimeter gutters with GPM™ polymer grating, and a parapet headwall.
The Challenge
The project presented two unique challenges. The new pool needed to fit within a tight courtyard between existing campus buildings while providing a durable, long-term solution for the school’s growing aquatic program.
At the same time, the replacement pool carried significant historical importance. It would succeed the school’s original pool, which was hand-dug and constructed by community members in the early 1920s using donated tools and labor. Measuring 33.5 yards, the original pool hosted races both lengthwise and widthwise and served generations of students.
The Natare Solution
Natare’s stainless steel construction system was selected to maximize the available footprint while simplifying installation within the confined campus setting. The integrated aquatic systems provide long-term durability, low maintenance, and reliable performance for daily school use.

The Result
Today, the new aquatic facility provides students with a modern environment for competitive swimming, physical education, instruction, training, and recreation – all without leaving campus.
The grand opening celebrated both the school’s history and its future, featuring swimming races and a water chariot that delivered a celebratory cake across the pool by members of the school’s water polo team.
By combining innovative aquatic systems with thoughtful design, Natare helped create a facility that respects the school’s rich heritage while delivering the durability, efficiency, and performance needed to serve future generations of students.
